All shell buttons should be cleaned as the same recommended procedure for natural pearl jewelry. Jewelry cloth is not recommended because it might contain a chemical reaction to calcium carbonate, which is the natural material of all shells. Do not use products that contain petroleum, alcohol or mineral oils, as they are very drying and can damage the calcium carbonate over time.
