While porcelain is durable and strongest of all the ceramic clays, avoid dropping on hard surfaces. Depending on the decorating technique special consideration might be warranted such as hand painted, glazes, gilt trim, or transfers to mention a few. Many artisan buttons fall into this material category and those could entail mixed media.

Recommend Cleaning Method

Like fine porcelain dinnerware most manufactures recommend hand washing and would extend that recommendation here.
Don't use abrasive cloths, harsh chemicals that can be found in ammonia, polishes, or detergents, which can damage the glaze, paint and luster treatment. Bio grade jewelry paste can be used for hard to clean areas.
Do not soak porcelain buttons in water for extended periods.
Initially, wipe gently with a soft jewelry cloth, or soft bristle brush.
If dusting alone is not enough, clean with water and mild soap such as Ivory Snow or Orvus WA Paste Cleaner using a soft cloth or cotton swab.
Can use Fiberglass scratch brush pen for jewelry to clean the deep groves.
Rinse with dry soft cloth with clean water to remove soap if used./li>
Wipe dry immediately.
