China buttons, including calico chinas, are composed from high fire porcelain with glaze overlay to protect any design. Can have various designs and patterns, often with a glazed finish front and back. These buttons are identified by the roughness on the back from being laid on the kiln’s shelves directly. Later china buttons have more glass in their composition.
