The word "ceramic" comes from the Ancient Greek word keramikós, which means
"of or for pottery". For this guide, the more porous clay include red clay,
stoneware, earthenware, pottery to mention a few. Ceramic buttons might be
susceptible to water damage unless it is glazed on both sides.

There are many firing and decorating techniques and glazes with certain
properties when dealing with these buttons. There are also many artisan buttons
in this category and if the artisan gives no instructions, suggest these guidelines.
